Search Engine Optimization (ONLY LESSON 1)

Also... you should be working on the following:

1. Gather your content, check grammar and spelling.

2. Prepare the CSS if you are using one.

3. Scan or otherwise digitize your pictures/photos and clean them up. Everything should be ready for inserting into the page very soon.

4. Secure yourself a server space, you must have one of these within one or two weeks.

Some places you can host in that cost money are:

Also check with your ISP (internet service provider) to see if you have free hosting space with them.

  • aol
  • pacific bell
  • att
  • earthlink

5. This step is optional... If you so choose, this would be the time to register your domain name. It is better if you do this through your server hosting people.

  3. Site Skeleton - Using this Template, create a site skeleton with Place Holder html documents for all your main pages. Content does not need to be in here at all yet. Make sure all the pages are linking properly to eachother.
  4. Upload your Root directory into your class exercises folder on my server. Link your final project index page from your class exercises menu so I can check it from the internet.

Midterm Part 2: Due October 31

Work in class... To be announced later.

Assignment 3: Duet Thursday Sept. 26

Go to the Internet and find one or two pages (can be more if you want) that look and feel more or less the way you want your final project to look like. You may find one page that has the right color scheme and another with the right navigation, you can use them both.Once you find the right page(s):

  • Print a copy (preferably)
  • Save the URL and bring it to class and
  • Email me the URL so I can look at it

We are going to look at the navigation styles that you chose and try to duplicate them for your own project. Make sure you don't choose an All-Flash site because we have the HTML limitations for this course. There are a couple web page compendiums out there on the web such as: CoolHomePages.com that you can use as a resource.

Assignment 2: Due Thursday Sept. 12

Please build a navigation tree for your website. Include the Index page (home page or splash page) at the very top of the tree and then all the main sections and their corresponding subsections. Include links to the exterior of the site and mark them with an X. Include important internal links and user flow throughtout the site.

You can make the tree with small post-its, or drawn squares to show each page. Please make sure that the whole thing is readable and clear.

For ideas you can reffer to the Yale style Manual online.

Assignment 1: Due Thursday August 29

1. What is your website about (the topic that you chose to make your site about)?

2. Who is your target audience (who is going to be looking at your site)?

3. Who is your client (is this site for yourself or for somebody else?)?

4. Tell me your proposed color scheme. Basically, what color combination do you plan to use. Why did you choose these colors? (Hex and RGB)

5. What is the approximate length of the site (number of separate pages)
